PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Utility operator is responsible for providing production process support in several areas, including physically removing shingle bundles from the conveyors, assisting with clearing jams in the Autocatchers, conducting visual quality inspections, and general cleanup & assistance in several areas of the plant.

The Utility operator is a key contributor to the continuous improvements of critical plant performance metrics in the areas of safety, productivity, cost, quality and sustainability. This role is essential to the successful operations of the Compton Roofing and Asphalt site. The Utility operator is an hourly position reporting to the Front Line Leader on his/her assigned shift.

The hourly rate for this position is $22.07. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lives the Owens Corning Safety Standard and meets all safety requirements. Safety is a condition of employment.
  • Participates in the safety, quality, autonomous maintenance, TPM and 5S process as established within the plant: including but not limited to Focus Improvement events, Safety Committee, etc.
  • Participates in safety, quality, and housekeeping programs established at the plant.
  • Notifies appropriate personal of any equipment malfunction, abnormalities and safety issues.
  • Understands and utilizes process stops and emergency stops when necessary.
  • Understand and perform the duties of a utility operator.
  • Understands quality & production metrics; fills out required checklists, and turns in to appropriate personnel
  • Communicates and reacts to material not meeting quality & production standards.
  • Maintains strong communication with appropriate line section operators to ensure immediate action is taken for product out of spec.
  • Inspects products and takes corrective actions. Detects all defects, job changes and splices. Communicates to supervisor and team.
  • Assists Auto-catcher Operator on catcher jams, conveyor jams, and other tasks at the area.
  • Ensures bundles are stacked properly exiting auto catchers and proper count of each bundle.
  • Sorts first quality material and seconds quality material. Removes all off-quality shingles from the production line and pallets, including mat splice and release tape splices.
  • Rewraps bundles that need new wrapping.
  • Responsible for supplying sealant to sealant system and maintaining scrap material.
  • Assists Palletizer operator fix crooked bundles and jammed pallets.
  • Assists wrapper operator in changing wrapper rolls, making wrapper splices, clearing bundle jams, and other tasks when necessary.
  • Trains to relieve/cover Auto Catcher operator and other machine operators when necessary.
  • Assists other areas with mat/sheet lace-up, splices, cleaning, and other tasks when needed.
  • Completes assigned planned maintenance orders and assist mechanics when needed.
  • Demonstrates flexibility to changing priorities as business needs dictate.
  • Establishes goals, prioritizes and organizes actions, timelines and resources.
  • Understands the needs of the customer and takes action to address those needs.
  • Acts decisively and shows a strong sense of urgency to ensure follow through of established goals.
  • Identifies and participates proactively in learning opportunities, and develops expertise in those areas.
  • Ensures standard operating procedures and processes are in place.
  • Performs other related duties consistent with the nature of this position, as directed by the operator's supervisor.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Two or more year of relevant work experience preferred
  • Basic computer proficiency required
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must be a US citizen or have the right to work in the US
  • Must be drug and alcohol free
