Commonwealth Care Alliance (CCA) is thrilled once again to host its Summer Internship Program for clinical and non-clinical departments!The Internship Program is open to undergraduate and graduate students from across the country. CCA Internships are a valuable way for students to obtain real-world experience, gain exposure to a specific field, build their network for the future, and support our members and communities. This program is a great way for CCA to attract and develop exceptional talent as we continue to grow.

CCA's Quality Department has expanded to include Alternative Payment Models including Quality and Value Based Care (VBC). Over the last three years, the organization has built clinical/quality incentives into the contract agreements of several larger provider organizations. As CCA's continues to grow its VBC program, we are looking for a conscientious, motivated, and detailed oriented candidate with an interest in healthcare quality, healthcare policy, data analytics, provider engagement, and provider contracting to join our team for the summer.

In collaboration with the Network Quality Strategy Program Manager and the Vice President of Population Health and Network Quality Strategy, the Network Provider Quality Intern will support the structure and continuous growth of CCA's Quality Provider Performance Incentive Program.



What You'll Be Doing:

With the support and guidance of the Network Quality Strategy Program Manager:

  • Assist in preparing information and research materials to identify business problems, offer recommendations and assist management with implementation of solutions
  • Support leaders on projects designed to enhance the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the Quality Performance Incentive Program
  • Develop and maintain a solid understanding of CCA business, products, programs, data, organizational structure and Population Health and Network Quality Strategy operations
  • Participate in networking sessions with CCA leaders, Quality Department and other interns
  • Participate in department meetings and projects to support NCQA Health Equity and Health Plan accreditation efforts to ensure team alignment on key organizational goals, etc.
  • Create and update standard operating procedures, provider manuals, and other quality documentation materials for the performance improvement program
  • Support identification of improvement opportunities through basic and advanced data analytics as capable- calculating rates, creating member lists based on certain criteria, creating charts for optimal viewing of data, etc.
  • Create templates and update provider presentations in PowerPoint
  • Work collaboratively with our partners in the Provider Engagement, Contracting, Risk Adjustment, and Population Health Departments on cross functional projects to improve provider performance and member outcomes
  • Attend and shadow provider performance and provider quality meetings as needed
  • Perform administrative organizational tasks and projects

Additional Information

  • 1-2 days a week in the office, the other days will be remote. Main office location is 2 Avenue de Lafayette, Boston, MA 02111.
  • Occasionally may work from or attend meetings at 30 Winter Pl., Boston, MA 02108, which is a 0.2 mile from 2 Avenue de Lafayette.
  • All internships will be paid standard and competitive rates for undergraduate and graduate levels ($23 and $25 per hour respectively). Internships are expected to be full-time through the duration of the program.


What We're Looking For:

Required:

  • Graduate student or student entering their 3rd of 4th year of a bachelor's program in in health care administration, public health, or public policy program
  • Current undergraduate or graduate student with a 3.0 GPA or higher required
  • Interest in quality improvement and/or population health programming in a health plan environment
  • 2 years of prior professional work experience
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite including basic knowledge of Excel (creating tables, sorting, basic formulas- adding, dividing etc.) and PowerPoint
  • Microsoft Outlook and Teams
  • Effective verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Responsible for maintaining confidential information to the highest degree
  • Foundational presentation skills

Desired:

  • Enrolled in a four-year college/university or a Master's/PhD program for the duration of the internship
  • BSN, or bachelor's degree in healthcare
  • PMP or project management experience
  • Prior professional work experience in a healthcare setting
  • Advanced Excel (advanced formulas- v and x lookups and pivot tables etc.)
  • Policy/procedure writing
  • Provider engagement
